What is THCA?

Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCa) is one of the 100-plus naturally occurring cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis sativa plant (it’s also found in hemp, a federally legal form of cannabis sativa that contains less than 0.3% THC by dry weight).

THCa is the chemical precursor to THC; when heated, it turns into THC (this process is known as decarboxylation). Raw THCA will not create a head high, but in many cases, it’s consumed in a way that involves decarboxylation, allowing the user to experience the psychoactive effects.
